Background

At the 10th International Conference on Economic Management and Green Development (ICEMGD 2026), this symposium focuses on the opportunities and challenges of advancing sustainable industrial development through innovation and ethical governance in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) derivatives sector. The global transition toward a green economy has reshaped industrial development paradigms, placing increasing emphasis on sustainability, efficiency, and responsible governance. Within this context, the industrialization of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) derivatives has emerged as a rapidly growing sector, driven by rising demand for natural healthcare products and international market expansion. From an economic and management perspective, this sector reflects the complex interaction between resource allocation, industrial upgrading, and institutional governance. However, challenges such as inefficient supply chains, inconsistent quality standards, environmental pressures, and weak regulatory coordination continue to constrain sustainable growth. These issues highlight the need for integrated frameworks that combine green economic principles with industrial ethics. Strengthening governance mechanisms and promoting innovation-driven development are therefore critical to enhancing both the competitiveness and sustainability of TCM-related industries.

Goal/Rationale

The rapid expansion of the TCM derivatives industry presents significant opportunities for economic growth, industrial diversification, and global market integration. At the same time, it raises pressing challenges related to sustainability, governance efficiency, and ethical business practices. Current industrial models often prioritize short-term gains over long-term value creation, leading to resource overexploitation, fragmented supply chains, and regulatory gaps. Moreover, the lack of standardized governance frameworks limits the industry's ability to compete in international markets.

This symposium aims to address these challenges by focusing on economic and managerial approaches to sustainable industrial transformation. The primary objectives are as follows:

  • Establish a platform for discussing green economic strategies and industrial governance in TCM-related sectors
  • Analyze industrial structure optimization and value chain upgrading of TCM derivatives
  • Examine business models that integrate sustainability and ethical responsibility
  • Evaluate policy instruments and regulatory mechanisms supporting green transformation
  • Explore the role of innovation, digitalization, and market expansion in driving industry growth
  • Address governance challenges such as standardization, certification, and cross-border regulation
  • Promote collaboration between academia, industry stakeholders, and policymakers

The symposium seeks to generate actionable insights for improving efficiency, governance quality, and long-term sustainability in the TCM derivatives industry.

Scope and Information for Participants

This symposium focuses on the economic and managerial dimensions of sustainable development in the TCM derivatives sector, within the broader framework of the green economy. Contributions are particularly encouraged from researchers in economics, business, and public policy.
